Kabbalah is a Jewish mystical system comprised of both philosophy and practice explaining the workings of the world and the inner psychology of men while facilitating the active participation in a world conceived of as having been created by the deity.
The focus of many Jewish mystics is scripture, the Tanakh, or the Law this conveys, the Torah. Its primary glyph of Kabbalah is the Tree of Life, and the understanding and application of this tree is one of the main goals of kabbalists. A heavy emphasis on its alphabet, which doubles as counting numbers and is generally thought to have been provided by the deity, makes the assignment of these letter-numbers to the paths of the tree very useful and meaningful.
The two main texts of Kabbalah beyond the Tanakh and Talmud are the Zohar and Sepher Yetzirah.
