The Greek language in one form or another has been spoken in Greece for over three thousand years.Natively it is written in the Greek alphabet.

Modern Greek is quite distinct from Mycenaean (Ancient) or Classical Greek though one form,the katharevousa,seeks to restore classical aspects but has been deprived of government support in recent years in favor of demotike,which is more akin to post-Classical koine Greek.
