Joseph Smith
From SourceryForge
Joseph Smith Jr. (December 23,1805-June 27,1844) founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and led it until his death.
He claimed to have translated its most prominent sacred text, the Book of Mormon, from golden plates revealed to him by angels and with the use of magical tools that like the golden plates were then taken away.
His dabbling in fortunetelling, magical location of potential treasures, and freemasonry are downplayed by the modern leadership of the Church, and the Temple rituals he established have been modified in recent years.
