Shyama Charan Lahiri,best known as Lahiri Mahasaya (September 30,1828-September 26,1895),was an Indian teacher of yoga and the guru of Sri Yukteswar Giri.Mahasaya is a Sanskrit religious title meaning "great soul".
Lahiri Mahasaya was chosen by Babaji to introduce Kriya Yoga to the modern world.Unlike most Indian holy men,Lahiri maintained a family life rather than fulltime asceticism.
