This is a list of all German language Tarot publishers. For those without a website in English, deep links to the tarot decks will be given where possible. When nothing else is mentioned, the decks and their documentation are in German. The information in this article is as of 2008.

Should you travel to Germany and want to shop, it's useful to know one thing about the German book business: they have a marvelous distribution system. This means that you may order all these tarots at any bookshop and usually it is possible to have them delivered within one to three work days, no matter where you're located or how big the shop is. It may take longer with products from really small publishers. Sadly this doesn't apply to the Piatnik decks, because they don't market them as "books".

Also, remember that most small German shops, like independent bookshops, don't like credit cards, so bring cash.

Contents

Urania Verlag, English website availiable

Swiss publisher belonging to Carta Mundi. Their catalogue contains a wide variety of decks, including many that are historically interesting or not availiable elsewhere. They also have a wide selection of Lenormand cards and other oracle decks, including some from Piatnik. Some but not all of their decks are also availiable in English. See the catalogues.
In October 2007 Königsfurt Verlag was sold To ASS Altenburger Spielkarten, which is part of the belgian Cartamundi Group, like Urania Verlag. As a concequence, the two were fused to one company, now called Königsfurt-Urania GmbH, belonging to ASS Altenburger. (see [1] german) As of August 2008 they are still in the process of unifying their catalogues. The old website of Urania is still up, but already many of their products are availiable via Königsfurt.
Johannes Fiebig, the former owner of Königsfurt Verlag, is now the CEO of Königsfurt-Urania GmbH, the old Königsfurt Website has changed little (Exept the ASS Altenburg logo everywhere and the Urania decks in the program), many of the older Urania decks have disappeared from the available stock. Without any knowledge about the goings-on behind the scenes, it looks like Königsfurt is the stronger of the fused parts. If there are any Urania decks you really want it might wise to go get them now.

Königsfurt-Urania GmbH, German only

(Formerly Königsfurt Verlag) They distribute most Lo Scarabeo decks in Germany, some with german-only booklet, some with the original 4 language booklet. They also distribute a select few decks from U.S Games and Fournier. Their most distinctive products are the Margarete Petersen Tarot, the Jubilee edition of the Dali Universal Tarot and new editions of several interesting tarots like Roehrig Tarot, Tavaglione Tarot and Voyager Tarot. The Margarete Petersen Tarot and The Dali Universal Tarot are also availiable in English, including English booklets. They also have a wide selection of Lenormand decks and oracle decks.
Now, after the fusion with Urania Verlag (which see for details) they carry many of their former Decks.

Piatnik, English website availiable

Austrian playing card factory offering a small but nice selection of tarot decks. They distribute a few Lo Scarabeo decks in Austria, their most distinctive products are the Ecclectic tarot and the Egorov tarot. They also offer a few historical playing card decks and a good selection of standard and semi-historic decks meant for playing the game of tarot (Tarock in German).
Note that they are primarily a playing card manufacturer, not a book publisher. That means their products are not availiable through bookshops, so you will have to purchase them online from specialty shops.

Silberschnur Verlag, German only

A small esoterics-only publisher offering these tarot decks and several oracle decks.

Fleurus Verlag, German only

small publisher of children's books and all kinds of other books, including two tarot decks

Arun Verlag, German only

small publisher offering books about paganism, witchcraft and related topics. While tarot is clearly not their main area of expertise, they offer two major arcana only decks which are beautiful and may be interesting for collectors. They also offer a German version of the Druidcraft Tarot by Phillip and Stephanie Carr-Gomm and a few oracle decks.

Neue Erde Verlag (formerly Iris Verlag), German only

Small esoterics publisher, offering 4 Tarot decks: another WS reproduction, two decks translated from foreign editions and a major arcana only deck that seems to be original. Unfortunately, their new website navigation doesn't allow the setting of deep-linked bookmarks.

Ullstein Verlag, German only]

A big paperback publisher offering all kinds of books, including lots of esoterica. They offer one tarot deck, which is a German version of the Sacred Circle Tarot. They also have a few oracle card sets about angels.

Several German publishers belonging to Random House/Bertelsmann; German only

This is a big publishing group owning many important publishing houses. They offer several tarot decks scattered over their different publishers.
