I decided to write this artical not because I'm an expert on mineral magic(I'm not) but because it was through stones that my studies began. I was sixteen at the time and I'd never even considered the possibility of magic being real. The stones changed that for me and I feel I should try give a little somthing back.

History
The belief that stones and minerals have magical properties has persisted for countless centuries and spanned the entire globe( at least as far as I can tell ). Almost every magical trdition you'll ever come across has at least a little to say on the subject of stones crystals and minerals. And so do I.
Experiences with stones
The use of a stone often begins with a cleansing ritual of some sort as stones store any magical or emotional energy that they come across and can pick up some nasty vibes. This can be done in numerous ways but I prefer saturating them with my own energy until it can't hold any more (this can take a few days with certain stones). Once this is done the stone is ready for use.
To use a stone it has to be "programmed" or told what you want it to do. This is a simple enough task as all you have to do is hold the stone in your hand and think strongly of your intent or desire/need, at first this may take some time but after a while it becomes second nature and the more often you use a particular stone for the same purpose the less fequently you'll need to recharge it.
Stones are the lazy magicians best tool as once they are programed they need next to no attention whatsoever and can therefore be extremly useful talismans. Most stones have( or develope ) their own personalities and can add unforseen little "quirks" to any working that they're involved in. Lastly all stones are excelent stores for magical energy and can be used to store extra energy creared by ( or readied for ) a ritual or other magical working.
Inherent powers of stones
On the other hand, many people feel that stones have inherent magickal powers that are specific to special sorts of stones
Symbolical use of stones
Like for most possible magickal items, there exist convoluted correspondence lists for stones to almost everything else, like planets, signs of the Zodiac, other astrological things, and stuff such as tarot cards, runes, illnesses character traits.....
Aside from any real powers of the stones, or powers stored in them by the practitioner, they be powerful symbols.
