Synchronicity

Synchronicity is, as described by Carl Jung, who coined the term, an "acausal connecting principle." It is related to the word "synchronous" in that the events are perceived synchronously, though the timing or placement of the actual connected events may be fairly different. Strings of uncommon occurances that are given meaning by the observer are the most common examples of this force in action. Jung links his explanation of synchronicity to many such occurances in his life and observations on the lives of his patients, and also to card-reading ESP experiments of his day.

Many people, adepts or otherwise, see instances of synchronicity as signs from Deity or the world in general, and some Postmodernists and Chaos Magicians tend to speak of "opening up to synchronicities" and becoming more aware of them as part of their magickal path.
