Front Page Locked

The front page got spammed today, so I've "protected" it. That means only the administrators can edit it. Leave a comment on this Talk page if you want something changed. Elseware 10:11, 26 Apr 2005 (BST)

I'd recommend changing the 4th sentence to the following (look at source to implement).
Currently we have 2,566 pages and we are growing fast!

Featured Articles

I put a new article on the front page. I'm inclined to suggest making the featured articles much fuller, but doing it by month. What do you think? Then we can link via: Template:Featured article June, 2013 (done with {{featured article {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}}, {{CURRENTYEAR}}}}). That way we can pre-prepare loads in advance and if we forget then it'll appear as if by magic without us having to remember. Elseware 17:56, 10 Jan 2005 (GMT)

  • Yes that's okay. I like the automated system! Magos 20:20, 10 Jan 2005 (GMT)

Areas of Influence

(I have no good name for this, but the arbitrary division found in, uh, Prime Chaos I think, seemed useful)

Erm, this division is from "Liber Kaos" Aog 06:05, 2 Sep 2003 (BST)

Ah, thanks... same area of the bookshelf, anyway. Was there a name given to this division?--Perfect Tommy 06:21, 2 Sep 2003 (BST)

As far as I can recall, Carroll came up with this division of distinct magical practises for "Liber KKK" - the practical requirement for attaining the 2nd (adept) degree in the IOT Pact. Aog 08:33, 2 Sep 2003 (BST)

Tools

300-year-old skull chalices and wands made of soda straws: The use and abuse of magickal objects.

I can't tell if this is a good method of division or if it's way too much--since there's nothing stopping us from cross-linking to the same pages from different areas, I would tend to err on the side of too many categories, but that's just me. Standard 'monkey with this as you like' disclaimer applies. --Perfect Tommy

Use 4 x "~" to sign comments, it does magic username & time!

We need to combine this list with the Cultures and Traditions Index but that shouldn't be too hard.

Ooh, I like this much better. Rock. Faething 03:09, 2 Sep 2003 (BST)

The current front page looks pretty good, but I'm not sure if we should put "empty" links on it. At least they give an idea of where we are going.

I think it's better to leave those sections empty for now than to make one sentance nodes. Elseware 09:47, 2 Sep 2003 (BST)

Elsewhere, you mentioned (earlier) about getting an 'open source' compilation of correspondences - choirs of angels, precious stones, etc. Not really my cup of tea really, but I think I have something along these lines squirreled away somewhere - a sort of '777' compiled by a bunch of Thelemites in the late '80s. It's all hard copy though, but (providing I can find the thing) I should think they'd be amenable to it being used (can always ask 'em). Interested? Aog 10:17, 2 Sep 2003 (BST)

If you think it'd be useful. Hmm. Sometimes I suspect kabalah and other such systems are what happend before people started making critical hit tables. I should probably cut back the time I'm spending on this soon. I've spent the last few days rather obsessing. And strangely, compliling tables is not a very good way to get into a magical state of mind.

I like having empty links on the main page, it gives people an idea of how to add things. Self

Frontpage getting crowded...

As more links get added to the front page some lists will have to become subpages. The danger is that the most successful sections would be the first to be hidden lower in the site. Personalities is my concern as it's getting to the point where there are some I've not heard of, but that does not mean I feel I can say they are less significant. Ideas? Elseware 12:49, 27 Apr 2004 (BST)

Article of the day

How about having an Article of the day in the frontpage? We may also like to consider having a Stub of the day so that ppl can find and fix it. Perhaps it would be difficult to change it every day, so we can make it article of the week or something like that, Magos 00:50, 25 Sep 2004 (BST)

British spelling

From the Main Page: "This site is a community maintained esoteric encyclopedia"

Would you have any problem if I change encyclopedia to encyclopaedia in order to promote British spelling? (for example, BBC uses the spelling "ae" instead of "e") Are there any Americans or anyone else who dislikes this idea here? (feel free to say your opinion) Magos 19:05, 22 Oct 2004 (BST)

Elseware: Nope, my spelling is awful, but I am English, and the server is in the UK. Ultimately I don't care, so knock yourself out.

I think encyclopædia with the letter 'æ' would be better. Hold down ALT and press 0230 on the keypad. ae just stands for æ.

Pazuzu 13:20, 1 November 2006 (GMT): I am American but I prefer to see British spellings for some reason... :P

I'm American but the spelling I prefer varies with the word in question...and I'll continue to use the spellings I find most appropriate.--Louis E./le@put.com/12.144.5.2 14:35, 1 November 2006 (GMT)

Psychological factors in main page text

From Main Page: "You should contribute"

I will change it to "you are welcome to contribute" in order to emphasise freedom (anyone can contribute) instead of duty (you should contribute). Psychologically, volunteers don't like to be told what to do, and the use of "should" may make them feel uncomfortable in their subconscious. Magos 19:09, 22 Oct 2004 (BST)

Elseware: cool.

Mis-spelling :P

You mis-spelled "category" as "catagory" under "SourceryForge Tools". I'd fix it, but Main_Page is locked (with good reason!).

Boring frontpage

How 'bout a news section on the main page showing new and recently edited articles? It never really appears much different from one time to the next I check it.

The problem is, we are somewhat lacking active contributors. We had a featured articles section on the main page, but it was deleted because i saw no point in featuring my own articles all the time. The easiest solution: Get an account and start writing, that will make this place more interesting and maybe help attracting other people. If you want to see recently edited articles, hit "recent changes" in the side bar. There is a similar option for new articles, maybe a link to that one on the main page would be a good idea.
