Theosophical Society

The Theosophical Society, an organisation promoting Theosophy, was founded in 1875 in New York City by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky together with Henry Steel Olcott, William Quan Judge and others.

The Theosophical movement is now divided in several separate organisations. After Blavatsy's death, two organisations were formed:

• The Theosophical Society following Henry S. Olcott and Annie Besant which kept its headquarters in Adyar, Madras, India. The American sector of this organisation is known as the Theosophical Society in America. http://www.theosophical.org/
• The Theosophical Society following William Q. Judge with headquarters first in New York City and now in Pasadena, California. In 2006,Randell C. Grubb succeeded as leader on the death of Grace F. Knoche. http://www.theosociety.org/
