Underworld

Underworld commonly refers to the idea of a place where people who are judged as living out of accordance with the mores of their society go when they die. Not all cultures see the underworld as a negative place, but most modern spiritual practices and many prominent ancient ones describe their version of the underworld as a negative place that is used for punishment.
