Violet as a color (colour) represents the highest frequency,shortest wavelength light of the visible spectrum.It is similar to but not quite identical to magenta or purple (which contain an admixture of red);to go further in the direction of shorter wavelength and higher frequency takes one into the ultraviolet.
It is also the name of a type of flower of that color.
