Zoroastrianism was the main religion in Persia before the Islamic takeover of Persia. The Zoroastrians worship is said to involve fire but exact practice is unclear to me at the moment.

Zoroastrian priests are known as magi, and have been identified with the three kings in the nativity story of Jesus.

Key deities

  • Zurvan - the primordial patriarch-god of infinite time and space
  • Ahura Mazda (Ormazd) - creator of heaven and earth, god of good
  • Angra Mainyu (Ahriman) - personified spirit of evil

Lesser gods included the Amesha Spentas who served Ahura Mazda and Daevas (from whose name comes the word "devil") who served Angra Mainyu.
